MSc Psychology (Conversion)

This British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited conversion programme is designed to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of biological, developmental, cognitive, and social psychology, which you will be able to apply in a variety of settings including research, practice, and the interface of applied research.

 

1、Key Factors

You will learn from the world’s leading academic experts and active research leaders within a research-connected student experience combining active learning and authentic assessment. This is central to the programme in which you will take part in a collaborative and active learning approach as well as action-based learning. The Department of Psychology at the university is one of the UK’s oldest and leading academic psychology departments known for its world-class research. You will learn through exchanging ideas and experiences via discussion forums with your international peers which will facilitate interaction, motivation and learning and actively engaging in solving real world dilemmas within their context.

 

You will be assessed entirely through written assignments and also be required to create an online portfolio of evidence which you can mark your project-based work as your personal achievements and resume details. Upon the culmination of your degree, you will produce an independent research dissertation on a psychological issue of your choice and apply theory to practice.  

 

Upon completion, you will meet the requirements for Graduate Basis of Chartership with the British Psychological Society (GBC). This is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist in the United Kingdom (UK). Also, you will be eligible to be admitted to train in the domains of Clinical or Clinical Neuropsychology, Counselling, Educational Child Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Sports and Exercise Psychology or Occupational Psychology.

 

It also equips you with the tools needed for a career in healthcare, law enforcement, finance, IT, and research. Understanding human behaviour and motivation and the ability to critically analyse will prepare you for a career in the creative industries, legal sector, government administration, and education.

4、Learning and assessments

Teaching methods

You will take part in an innovative online learning environment, which includes a range of interesting and thought-provoking exercises. Core information is developed by subject-leading experts in the field and closely aligned with both industry and academic best practice, underpinned by rigorous theoretical and practical topics, examples and cases. Throughout your study journey, you will learn through interactive individual activities, case studies, group tasks and discussion boards; these will be primarily asynchronous, but opportunities for synchronous interaction will be provided.

 

Assessment method

Assessment is by coursework only – no examinations required. Instead, a diverse range of assessments are used throughout the programme designed to mirror circumstances that students may experience within a professional context. This ensures you will be provided with a range of opportunities to show evidence of your learning.

5、Virtual learning environment (VLE)

The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is at the centre of your online study experience. It is the platform where you can find your study timetable, view interactive lecturecasts, exchange knowledge with others in discussion forums, access resources and e-library, and submit your assignments. You can learn on demand, study at any time, on any device, from anywhere with an internet connection. There is a study skills hub to help you improve and maintain your academic skills, from planning your assignments, understanding academic integrity, and referencing, to using the online library and improving your time management.

 

6、Entry Requirement

  • A minimum of a 2:1 class degree in any subject including psychology equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree; or
  • A minimum of a 2:2 class degree in any subject including psychology equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree AND have gained at least two years of relevant professional experience.

Non-psychology applicants will normally require a GCSE Grade 4 (grade C) or GCE O Level pass in Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification. 

 

All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 (overall) and 7.0 (reading and writing).

If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take a designated free online English test to assess your proficiency.

7、Fee and Funding

Full tuition fee: £16,065*
This fee is fully inclusive of all costs, including all teaching materials, core textbooks, assessments and resits.

If you choose to pay the full tuition fee upfront, you will receive an extra 5% discount.

Regional Scholarship
A Regional Scholarship of 5% is available for students based in Hong Kong for the 2023/24 academic year.
